Default New Scoop on the block...

When I was, lets say on another site, and was politely asked to take a vacation. Like forever. I think it would have sounded like sound of jail door shutting. Not like I would know. And I can still hear the singing of, "It's my party and I'll cry if I want to!"

Well the point here is there was a thread that a friend of mine was involved in. It was about scoops. I had a heavy duty scoop from Travis Nuthall. I really had liked it. Soooo, I guess you can say I am a kind of a big guy. And when I work the wet sand, I work, and work it fast. Having to deal with waves and stuff, one needs to move at a continuous pace. This big scoop, bent. And my friend posted it.

I get a letter from Travis, a tad unhappy. Not that I blame him. Told me he would make good on replacing, or refunding. I chose replacing. It was a whole new design.

So here are some pictures of the old, and new scoop to a link. Have a look. There is a description of the new scoop. I will tell you here that the handle is of fiberglass. Something new to the scene. I am hoping to get out sometime today to give it a try.

It took a long time to get. But Travis is a man of his word. Gold in my case. And it arrived when he said it would. And would do business with him again.

Will replace with new photos...

So here you go, and a report to come later.

Smoke

Hi Smoke and welcome to TQ!

Wow, that's some damage to the old scoop, was the handle thin walled aluminum?

Good luck with it and looking forward to your finds and report!

MLM,

No, it is made of stainless. It is a heavy piece of metal to lug around. But with my kind of work, it really isn't bad for me. I guess I just know how to use my weight, and where to throw it around. But somehow I will try to straighten out the old one, throw something in the tube to reinforce it from bending. It will be heavier, but it is nice to have a spare. Right?!!!

I know that SS scoop that you bent and it is a Monster. Just how big of a lug are you to bend it like a pretzel??
The fibreglass handle may be a problem where the rivets fo through. I built a scoop with a fibreglass handle and it was great but I had to be careful that I didn't damage the glass fibres or it was time to change the shaft. Easy enough to do, go to the hardware store and buy a fibreglass handled shovel for $10 (fibreglass replacement handles are $25, go figure) cut off the handle and replace.

Cheers,

BDA

BDA,

If you look at the picture of me and those other men there. You can see I am taller....

Actually, I am about 6'3". Weighing in around 225. Just over my norm of 210. Not bragging, this time really. I worked that scoop with one hand. In my work, which is construction, I do a lot of finish. But for the last 7 years I just hung doors. And the shortest doors were 8'. The biggest were 10 - 12 feet, X 3' X 2.25. They weighed 235 pounds each. So not only it keep me shape. But also crushed my spine, and tore my knee. I love this aging process!!!!

OK I am going for the obvious. It's my new sand wedge!

You play? I can spot these kind of things you know. I pretend to play, have a few six strings, and trying to play bass. What a different animal.
