Default Ft. Myer's Beach

I'm going to Ft. Myer's beach in a few weeks and would appreciate any help I could get about locations, tips, etc. I'm new to detecting and have been reading the posts on beach detecting. This will be the first time I've done any beach detecting and I'm really looking forward to it.

I am hoping some one familiar with that area can chime in. I know it is a beautiful area. Was there years ago. Hunt in the areas where the people congegrate. Look around entrances and where they play volleyball. Don't get your electronics wet and check to see if you can get your coil wet or not.

If you don't want to bend over a lot, get a long handled scoop with openings smaller than a dime to sift the sand out. Otherwise a lite, hand-held plastic or metal scoop, a finds and trash pouch, a hat, sunscreen and drinking water. There isn't a lot of large waves on the gulf side and not a lot of tide (1-1/2' I think.) Try hunting near the water at low tide.

I'm sure others will chime in.

Default Welcome

Welcome to TQ JCurt. I was born and raised in Niles, MI. Just a skip and a jump to SB.
LIke INDY, I was there(Sanibel Island)several times before I got into metal detecting. It is a beautiful place. Enjoy it, give people their space while you are detecting, and take time to see the sights. Alot of people also seashell hunt too.
Anyone reading this........the Candle Walk in December is fabulous. Or was that Captiva Island? Hmmmm Oh well. Free Wine and Cheese at every shop. The Edison Museum is worth a look too!

There is a public beach on Sanibel Is.

Best Regards,
Riff

Default Ft Myers beach

I haven't been there in over 20 years but with the growth they have experienced I would imagine there's quite a lot of loot. I'm on the Treasure Coast Vero Beach area. We can't hunt in the water due to the rights reserved by the Mel Fisher group. Check to see if it is permissible. We can get hefty fines here. If you can hunt in the water ( And have an under water detector) look for the trough, where it dips at low tide this is like a washing machine that churns and deposits the heavier items, Good luck and welcome to Florida. Scotty

Default Have fun!

JCurt-

I in Florida, but in the South. I do mostly beach hunting and I just started too, so the best advice I can give is:
1. Sunblock (and a hat)
2. Dig everything.
3. Be prepared to dig up a bunch of junk.
4. Don't let the bikinis distract you
5. Get a sand scoop. (it's a must)
6. More sunblock.
7. Water.
8. HAVE FUN. Enjoy the scenery, the smell, the sun.

Happy Hunting!

Sanibel Island is great too.... if you are looking to finds shells sanibel is the place to go, its more peaceful and not as active as Fort Myers, a good place to relax and watch the dolpins!
Enjoy!

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to the trip. I'll be there for a few days so I plan to go to Sanibel island while I'm there. I figure it will be a good trip whether I find anything or not.
