Midwest Beach Hunter

Not much sand in the South suburbs of Chicago, so I get my beach hunting in a couple times a year when I vacation in Florida. Living in the south suburbs there is plenty of forest preserve and park hunting. Even in the isolated areas where you wouldn't think many people would congregate I've been pretty lucky. But one thing I am not lucky in and thats beach hunting. I have an XLT, sand scoop, pinpointer and lots and lots of tabs and caps. If there is any beach hunting pointers anyone can give me it would be greatly appreciated. My next Florida trip will be next month, I'll be headed to Panama City Beach and it will be the first time hunting in that area.

Hey Tony, me & Buster live 45 minutes West of PCB, try to go where people have been laying, playing, drinking & partying, tons of people go there so you can find a lot of stuff there, however they do have a detecting club in PCB & they hit the beaches really good, best of luck to you, have a great time & BE CAREFUL, lot of crazies there too.

If there are entrances to the beach area and beach volleyball areas, they can be good. The XLT will find id if its there! Keep you coil low and swing slow. you will cover less beach but should recover more targets.

Good luck in FLA. Living in Chicago I would think the beaches along Lakeshore Dr would be a good place to detect no?

Hey E n Buster, do they have the sweepers out there too? They clean all the nice chains and goodies. We had to go real early in the morning, but usually we went in the evening

If your machine can handle wet salt sand then focus your energy there. The dry sand gets pounded hard at most beaches but the wet sand doesn't see as much action because many machines can't cope with the salt in the wet sand. Hit this area at low tide so you can take the most advantage of the area.

I think that they use racks pulled behind a truck..Have not seen them, but That's what I think..I and "E" have found rings and stuff out on the beach...Just hunt where the people hang out..I also use some other programs for my XLT...If you want, I can send you a few..I am using one from Kevin Melrooney that I got from his book...The XLT is a good machine and like they said..If it's there it will find it...When you get down this way to Florida, give "E" and me a yell and maybe we can get together...Buster...

I'm a beach hunter in South Florida and the best advice I can give you is:
1. Dig everything.
2. Prepare for lots of bottle caps and pull tabs.
3. Be be bummed by bottle caps and pull tabs, its still a day on the beach.
4. Don't forget your sunblock.
5. ENJOY YOURSELF!
