Has anyone used gold detectors on the beach? If so, what were the results and what detector did you use?

The Excalibur is also used by some as a gold nugget hunter and a relic hunter but is a heavy stick to swing. Most of the nugget machines are designed to work in highly mineralized environments so they will have no problem dealing with a salt water beach. Be careful, it would be a shame to drop a high end Minelab nugget machine like a 4500 into the water. In the dry and wet sand you should have no problems so long as you don't get it wet. All PI units can be set to compensate for salt.

The same circuitry that allows the Excal to excel in saltwater is useful in the highly mineralized soil found in gold fields and in the red clay areas found near many civil war sites. That said, the Excal will have a hard time competing with a specialized gold nugget PI machine. Of course, the big plus is when you are working streams for nuggets and relics because it's waterproof.

Rob Welcome to TQ...all the gold I find on the beach is in the form of jewelery although I don't use what most would call a gold detector.
