Default What kind of water shoes?

I had a couple of cheap ones and the last pair my wife bought lasted two times out. From me pushing on the back of the scoop I wore a hole right through the rubber bottom?? I want a light pair.

Any suggestions, will wet suit boots work good or aren't they tough enough?

That is a good question..I was thinking the same thing..I have a pair of those cheap beach/water shoes that I have used a few times. My buddy uses those beach shoes, but he drilled a bunch of holes in the bottom for the sand to go through....I am Still looking for something else myself...I use a pair of tennis shoes for my beach hunting, but have not stuck them in the water...I will watch this post to see if I can improve...Buster.....

I've tried several different types of footwear for surf pirating and my favorite in warm water is a pair of Chacos, water hikers. A tough Vibram sole like you'd find on a regular hiking boot with lots of arch support and heavy duty lashings to hold them snug on your feet. No metal in them at all so no interference with your detector. Sand washes in and washes right back out so none of the chafing that you get with dive boots.
When the water temps get down below 70 F I switch to dive boots for warmth, 65 F is cold after an hour or two up to your neck in the water. They come in various shapes and sizes but the all trap sand, the ones with the velcro tab above the ankle seems to do the best job of locking out most of the sand.
I wouldn't think of hunting with a sharp scoop in water that I know has lots of broken glass in it.

Cheers,

BDA
pic of Chacos below - Merrell makes a pretty good water hiker too, mainly for kayakers, canoeists, etc.

Keene also makes some really nice water shoes, but they're on the more pricey side...

CROCKS, are very comfortable, made in mens and womans. Very popular. I wear them as nurses shoes but they are great on the beach they have holes in them so the sand falls right out and you can go in the water with them. Here is a pic of them
