Default Oh Great.. just when i chose a detector.. wife say's...

O.K. great... now listen to this one.. i've been saving my tips at work for weeks to finally buy my first UWMD , and by next week-end i will have more than i needed to get the Pro PI, now my wife says " well you will have enough to get that Excal thingy" she has been paying attention to my drooling over a MD for months, and knows that i should get the best that i can efford... so my delema.. Stick with my first choice Whites pi pro.. or bite the bullet and go all the way and get the Excal 2... as a newbee, am i buying more than i would need with the Excal 2 over the PI PRO ? just when i had finally made a choice and felt my brain cells returning, the fog clearing and the numbness receding
here i go again!! so please forgive the "brain dead one">me but once more i beg your in-put on this...i ask because ... well. "ask those who know" and remember, any detector would make me happy...lol

I went through the same dilemna when I decided to move from the beach into the water. What to get, what to get? I finally decided to bite the bullet and get the Excal as it was the highest rated by surf pirates with experience. My Princess was less supportive than your wife and suggest that I keep the cost for a new detector under $1,000.(with shipping and duty I paid a little over $1,500) I had to overrule her request and she was in a minor funk over it until I started hauling nice baubles out of the ocean for her. Apparently, I made the right decision after all.
Go with the best you can afford as you will always have good resale and the extra results will pay for your extra expense in no time.

Cheers,

BDA

I would say get the PI and later on..upgrade if you are going to like this hobby and stay with it..You can always sell off the PI and get the Excal..Being your location, you are going to find some good stuff in the water and you will be hooked after a small bit of time...Just my thoughts. My first water machine is a Whites PI and I am still getting used to the aspects of the water hunt,...Buster....

If you have enough money for the PI Pro then I would get that one for now. When you find enough loot you can get an Excal then. You can have the PI as a back-up.

I would buy the ex cal because a few goods finds which will come will pay for it.

If you don't you will just be looking to upgrade later on. Why not just start out right if you have the go ahead. It will save you the hassle of getting rid of the first one when you do decide.

I would just get the ex cal. and you are done with it. I went through a few before I decided, and ended up doing the same on my beach scoop. Bought a so so one then discovered I need a better one, so now I have the first one I bought and don't use paid @120.00 plus for that. Then bought the current one @ $159.00 which I should have done in the first place. Thats my $.02

Well, thanks for in put so far gang... i think after talking with another person in Hawaii, that the Excal maybe the way to go. he said.. go excal, cause of the black sand and volcanic rocks under the sand.
Any other in-put from you all is still greatly accepted! shaka Maui Mike

Mike it's just a matter of course but you're first most likely won't be your last. Anyway I'm not real familiar with the PI Pro but
Can it descrim iron?
The Excal is just as deep but is a little harder to learn.
Kind of depends on what you want to dig.

Good luck, what ever detector you decide on will be able to find some good goodies.
