Thanks fe pics, Eric. Sailing is one of the passions of my life and I have seen and read accounts of the Bermuda races. I understand that if they have too many people (ballast) on board they are allowed to jettison people!

Some nice pictures. They are beautiful to watch, no doubt.

You are correct, Steve. If the captain wants to jettison members of the crew to make the boat lighter he is within the rules to do so. There are so many power boats following, leading and in amongst the racers that it's no problem to have an crewman pulled out of the water by some of the spectators.(so long as they don't run the poor guy over) This has been going on for centuries in Bermuda, Mark Twain wrote about it in one of his articles and it was old then.
I haven't gone sailing in years as I got tired of always waiting on the wind and switched to power a long time ago. I still keep an Albacore sailboat at my house in Canada but I think it's been at least 5 years since I took it out myself. A lot of fun with a stiff breeze blowing on the lake but I just haven't had the time.

Cheers Mate,

Don't worry, Mate! There are few sharks and lots of spectator boats so your odds of getting picked up before getting eaten are pretty good.
I do hope you're a good swimmer though because if you look at the pics there are no life jackets in evidence anywhere.

Cheers,
