Default Beach today it was 79 deg.

Had a good day on the beach in Fl. Found lots of items 3 qt 1 nic. 2 dimes and 5 pennys. Some pull tabs and caps. Also fouond a copper bracelet. It is hand made, cleaned it up a little and it has hammer marks on it I will have to see if it is an antique.

Does anyone know how to remove the white stuff that is on some of the pennys? I can not see the penny face. Would like to see if any of them are wheats or older?

Tom

Default hello dri-wash

i used a tumbler to clean mine and it worked pertty good, about 85% to 95% of them got clean, some where just to bad off...but worked good on silver too... there are different other ways to clean them i found some on the internet..for old,old coins some wont use a tumbler becouse the coin can get scrached....so chose the right method so not to do that...look under this forum and others and on google, under cleaning old coins or something like that...anyway what part of fla are you in..i'm in lakeland and there is not a whole lot of places to go here but parks and such....anyway good luck in your cleaning......

Default Zinc Pennies

If the pennies are coated in white stuff then they are zinc pennies and that white stuff is zinc oxide. If they are really bad all you can do is chuck them in the garbage as they won't clean up properly like a copper penny. Old copper pennies clean up nicely with a little lemon juice and some table salt. Put the pennies in a small container, cover with lemon juice and then put a half a teaspoon of sifto over them. Leave them for a couple of hours, then rub them between your fingers and they should be sparkling. Alternately, you can put them in ketchup over night and then rub off the build up in the morning.

Cheers,

BDA

Default thanks

Thank you for the clean up tips. I will try the lemon and salt on the older ones.

Have heard of it before think it has something to do with the tomatos more then the ketchup.

For years i never cleaned my coins beyond water and a toothbrush. The other day i decided to clean a few and see what happened.I took some of my crusty large cents and soaked em in hot peroxzide for about 5 min's then dropped em in some olive oil for a couple of hours, and i must say they look a whole lot more presentable now !
