Default I just got back from 12 days in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Not much loot to be found by this pirate but we had a great time just the same. I only managed 4 hours in the surf with the Excal and found only $1.05 in pesos plus a pair of cheap sunglasses. I took an hour to show my friend how to metal detect but it was a little disappointing as we found nothing but trash. He had fun though and it was all good. We did a lot of travelling while we were in Mexico so there just was much time for detecting.
Here's the pics:
1) I was in the water as this drysander went by on the beach
2) This pirate bar on the beach was a great place to get refreshments
3) My wife and I took the catamaran cruise with some friends to Isla de Mujeres
4) The Mayan ruins at Tulum were Outstanding
5) We went swimming in the Gran Cenote and divers came in through a connecting cave from another cenote a mile away

I'm back in Bermuda now and got a little clad today but hopefully tomorrow will bring better loot to this pirate.

Cheers,

BDA

Welcome back BDA! Sounds like you had a great time. Tough to hunt when there is so much to see around you!

Glad you made it there and back safely. It must be hard going from one island paradise to another beautiful place. Isn't Isla de Mujeres also called Isle of Women?
I am curious as a close friend of mine has a vacation home there, if it is the same island.

Default You are correct, Isla Mujeres translates into English as the Island of Women

Possibly named because pirates who inhabited the island kept their women captives trapped on the island while they went plundering. Alternately, because it was a stopover on the trip to Cozumel to worship the fertility goddess and small statues of women were found in a cave on the island, left by the pilgrims on their way to Cozumel.
