Default Metal detectorist elbow

OK, maybe not from metal detecting but hey I know it hurts when I use my right hand. I'm 32 and got diagnosed with "tennis elbow" about 3 weeks ago. This sucks! I don't even play tennis, go figure . Think it's either from carrying baby to much or disc golf. One good thing that came out of it though is I use my left hand now to swing my detector which in turn has slowed my sweeps down. Hopefully I can find some deeper coins because of it!

Does my ex count as a disability cause hes a pain in the @#$ , a thorn in my side and gives me a migrain every time I have to deal with him. on a more serious note Kuddos to all of you that have to deal with pain on a daily basis. Im fortunate to only have a few minor joint problems that only flair up occasionally. G-girl

I've got a few issues, Atrial Fibrillation, Neuropathy in both feet, Diabetes, back injuries, neck injuries, Sleep Apnea, carpal tunnel, bursitus in right shoulder, Hiatal hernia (repaired).
Nearly ALL of this stuff outside of injuries I can lay at the feet of being overweight most of my adult life. Even the stuff that weight didn't cause was made worse because of my weight. Lose the weight and keep it off; you'll be thankful you did.

I've taken up MDing in part to get more exercise and assist me to lose weight, both to get my diabetes at least partially under control and to take some of the strain off the rest of the old bod.

My wife, who is also wanting to participate in this activity, makes me look healthy. The victim of a drunk driver who slammed head on into her car when she was 18, the laundry list of current injuries/ailments includes disc disease, a missing miniscus in one knee, a heavily damaged one in the other, a damaged hip, pins in one ankle, and enough aches and pains to make a Gitmo inmate sing like Aretha Franklin. I will have to make her a good long handled digger and some kind of picker-upper so she can stay as upright as possible.

It's good that most of us do our best to deal with such issues, and often seem to take these issues in stride. It definitely takes tough people to deal with some of these posted "ailments" I admire everone who has posted on this thread and all I can say is........It's a good thing we are not horses!.

I have arthritus in knees elbows and also get some bad skin infections from UC but I still try to get out MD'ing and hunting fishing you name it but I really don't like to be to far from a rest room OR tp.

I admire you for not letting it get you down(any more than it does). I was taking a prescription-strength anti-inflamatory for the R.A, and ulcers in my colon were a side-effect of the medicine.......Dr. switched 'em. I like the new ones better.........buzzzzzzzzz. Hope things go well for you................Rick

Default Mine Detecting with ailments

I have many of rhe same ailments you do The arthritus in the fingers, shoulders and hip. I have a bad heart and a pacemaker. My legs are in bad shape from loss of circulation caused by Diabetis. One knee has been replaced and the other needs it. My heart has lost 25 percent of tissue do to heart attacks. Other than that I still manage 2 to 3 detectings a week. Not bad for a 75 year old man. I am a lot slower than I use to be and friends that swing with me dig 3 times more holes than I do and consequently average more finds Than I do. But I still love metal detecting and get out whenevr my health and the weather lets me

My job is driving me insane with all the callouts and problems does that count? Seriously I do have tendonist in my right hand from a job I did a few years ago when I installed relays on a building control system and had to hand screw on over 6000 wire nuts. Swinging a detector can make it sore but no worst that having a major breakdown and pulling wrenches. I have a bad knee but detecting doesn't seem to bother it for some reason. Ice

I'm a slow digger, too. But, I have hunted with a few people that hunted "like rats on acid"(fast). When the hunt was over, I usually had just as much, if not more than they did, I enjoy hunting a smaller area slower, and more thoroughly than the fast folks. I guess there is an advantage to being slow sometimes........
