Thanks for the ata-boy Boobie. Those shoes, and flashlight does bring back old memories. Can you relate to this first one?

*going to the bathroom at night in the winter required pulling the pot W/lid out from under the bed.
*going to a Revival meeting in a brush arbor.
*taking flowers to cematary on Decoration Day.
*putting cardboard in your shoe to cover up the hole in the sole.
*lard
*churnnig butter
*hamhocks & pinto beans, fried potatos, fried okra, cornbread, and buttermilk for supper
*when you went to bed in the winter, and got covered up with all the quilts, you couldn't move until moring (unless you needed that pot under the bed)
*going to town on Sat. was a big deal

Pappy, your right; I think you lived just across the creek, and up the hill from us. Should we let everyone know that we lived so far back in the country that we didn't get the Grand Ole Opery until Tuesday night?
Pappy, just wanted to thank you again for starting this thread. I sure am enjoying it. I look forward to reading the new posts every day. It kind of makes me feel good inside just reminising the good times, and knowing there are good folks like you, and others that remember these things too, and share them with us. How I wish we could go back to those days, if only for just a little while. When a man's word,and a hand shake was better than any lawyers contract is today. When neighbors helpd each other instead of looking for a way to sue each other. When we could sleep at night in the summer with the doors, and windows open and didn't even think about burglers coming in. If someone in the family passed, every neighbor for a mile around brought in enough food to last for a week.
Those were truly the good ole days, and the best of times, and I'm thankful that I was fortunate enough to grow up during those times.

seen a many a deal done on a shake,still do that,if a persons word isnt any good ,kind tells you all you need to know about that feller,we kinda still live like what you were saying,never hardly lock a door unless we go out of town for a while and as far as burglers ....loard help them in this neck of the woods.had a sign up for a while said please remove dentures before entering our dogs find them hard to digest...later creek

YES, I agree with you Norris. I guess those days are gone BUT not around here ! We still live like that and that is the way I intend to continue.

It was so far to our mail box that I had to ride a pregnant mule to get the mail so I could have something to ride back!

Our hills were so steep we could plow both sides at the same time.

When we gathered taters we just pulled the plug at the bottom of the hill and let them roll out down to the cellar.

We had to prop up the pumpkins to keep them from rolling downhill into the house.

Our hills were so steep we had to pump the sunshine in and the moonshine out.

The cows could only go around the hill in one direction..If they went the other way they would fall off.

The sun didn't get to our house until around noon.

I enjoy reading all the post here, the funny ones too. Last week we had a big snow storm here in NE Oklahoma and it was neat to see the farmers, My Hubby included, get their Tractors out to clear the main street of our little town. And we had to us an ax to break the water on the ponds so the cows could drink. I love it.
