You pretended a tobacco sled was a ship, the tobacco sticks were harpoons and the tobacco barn was a whale.

PAP was in hopes that this thread would bring back some of the memories that we often take for granted and fail to think about.

My childhood was rough to say the least BUT I wouldn't trade a single minute for any of the times I went through.
Praise the Good Lord that I was born in this country, the LAND OF THE FREE and that I have the choice and no one else as to what I want to be, Who I want to be, Where I want to go and What I want to do.

I appreciate all my FAMILY here at TQ and I know that ALL OF US have memories that we want to share with the Family...Some good...Some Bad but they made us what we are today !

Just reflect on the way it was then and the way it is Now...Some big change don't you think?

Wouldn't trade the good ole days for NOTHING...and BELIEVE IT OR NOT...I STILL LIVE THAT WAY ! PAPPY

Default Heat with wood and stuff..

Wood is still the best way to heat... You get warm when you cut it, when you load it, when you split it, when you pack it into the house, and when you burn it.
Talkin about country, you can always tell when one of the boys up here has a girlfriend cause now there is chew stains runnin down both sides of the truck.
Country is going to town with more than one dog in the truck.
Country is driving down the road and having people wave at you with more than one finger.
Country is when you go on a trip, drive by a stock yard with the windows down and feel homesick.
Country is Saturday morning at the feed store. Ten minutes to get what you need and an hour and a half talkin to everyone you run into.
Country is sitting down to dinner and knowing you grew it all.
Country is spending winter evenings looking though seed catalogs and dreaming of spring.
I was born country, spent 30 years in city life because of employment and family, retired and moved back to the country. Was like putting on a favorite pair of old shoes.. Was back home again.

You said it well TwoDogsBob!!! That's country!!! Pappy sometimes you have to churn the milk before you get butter...I may not be saying that right but I had the opportunity to help an elderly lady do this when I was young and that is hard work, and help go out and get the fresh eggs from the chicken coupe so we all could have a fresh breakfast and nothing like fresh canned preserves with some homemade biscut's...Sometimes I think we do take for granted how easy it is today and how hard it was back then!!! Memories I will always charish!!! And we all need a reminder every now and then and be thankful for what we have and having your family with you and cherishing every moment you have!!!

Amen
Pappy!!!

I WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY !
I still make homemade biscuits Every Morning, We still have our own chickens and turkeys, MA and myself always make Jam's and Jelly every year, MA can's all of our stuff in the garden ( Except the things we eat fresh) I still make my own wine and shine, My Oldest Son comes over and cut's the wood for the stove ( Can't do much of that myself anymore) and all our neighbors get homemade cakes, cookies, pies, jam's, jelly's for Thanksgiving and Christmas.....IT'S THE GOOD LIFE...Wonder what the rich folk are doing today?...Can't be much better than I've got it !!!!
