Finally timed my trip to the beach , without that many ankle-biters to question me to death...
There is great history to Long beach, sometimes hidden but with thourogh research ,found again. Many good sites ended up covered over for parking ...one example i can think of, a couple of historical houses were ready to be moved from their foundations . seeing a choice opportunity i detected the dirt lots around them. I dug many good keepers (coins, tootsie toy cars, marbles, and some skeleton keys). Boy, i knew i was going to get some goodies if i kept with it , i never seen any evidence of others at this site. But, lo and behold ....fencing went up and asphalt laid.
It surprising how some cities are so ready to eliminate the past,i have poured over tons of old photos from the past and seen so many wonderful buildings and sites that are no more.
Even the beach area...there was a wonderful large pier that extended in a horse-shoe shape called at the time "rainbow pier"...now just a memory, with landed filled in , original beach areas now covered with land and condos.
It is the most hated thing i can think of when thinking about the state i live in ....
