awesome find total on Saturday !

Posted 07-28-2008 at 10:58 AM by DigsInDE
Decided to stay close to home on Saturday and headed over to the main recreation area in my development. Since I usually just started at one end and searched around, I figured this time that I would start my search around the basketball courts and fan out from there if the picking were slim.

Well, the pickings were FAR from slim ... in fact, in the 4 hours that I was there, there is still one side out of the four that I have not yet checked and I came up with 49 coins !

Headed out to the schoolyard on Saturday morning in order to give the Community Day in my neighborhood a chance to play out and head over there in the late afternoon.

I think Georgia Girl put the "penny hex" on me with her posting about saving pennies to donate to TQ because that is all I found for the first hour-and-a-half and only 7 of them. The heat was starting to take its toll, so I figured once around the wooden boards edging the tot lot and that was it.

Back out to the elementary school where I grew up. Spent Saturday's 2 hours mostly in the tot lot and rang up 10 coins (1 quarter, 2 nickels and 7 pennies) and a small pink-enamel heart charm. None of the coins were anything to write home about, but finding 2 more nickels makes me feel good that I can trust my machine when I get a solid nickel signal.
Walked away from the tot lot to some nearby kiddie equipment, some kind of thing where you toss the ball into one of 4 cones and then it comes...

I went to spend Fourth of July with my fiancee up on Staten Island and she asked me to bring my equipment up so that I could spend some time hunting at South Beach (not too far from Verrazano Bridge) while she grabbed some rays.

Well, that turned out to be a huge bust ! Spent a lot of time digging odd signals and found absolutely NADA, including 3 or 4 blobs of lead that were ringing up as pretty strong quarter or half-dollar signals.

After a disappointing hunt on Saturday down at Cape Henlopen State Park beach, where all I came up with was just 2 pennies and a mild case of sunburn on some parts of my body , I decided to stay local on Monday night by going down to the playground in the development. This time, instead of the grassy part where people play football and soccer, I decided to work the area next to the landscaping logs that surround the playground.

Fired up the Titan and within 4 steps, I hit...
