Metal Detecting and History books
This post is to list books relating to metal detecting.
Whether metal detecting or history or anything related.
I think almost any history books is a friend of metal detecting.
These first posts are from the forum message I started.
1. To start. My first and what is next to my desk all the time is United States Treasure Atlas by Thomas Terry.
2. A locally produced book by a member of the Lafitte Society in Galveston. Profiles in Pillage-Galveston Pirateers 1816-1822 by Bill Doree.
I like reading on Jean Lafitte.
3. Also one of my earlier books Texas Tales of Lost Mines and Buried Treasures by Carlos Savoy. It is well worn with bent pages having been read several times and I keep it in my car mostly. Alot of nice short stories of lost treasure.
4. Lost Gold and Silver Mines of the Southwest by Eugene L. Conrotto. Another book of short stories of lost treasure. There are alot of books like this that make great reading and are informative.
5. Another book like the 2 above is Dig Here-Lost Mines and Buried Treasure of the Southwest by Thomas Penfield.
6. A big old fat book of 872 pages of ghost towns with really great looking old pictures of some of the towns themselves and the people. copyright 1970. Only $10 at a used book store. Seems like a decent deal to me. Ghost Towns of the West by Lambert Florin.
7. Treasures of Galveston Bay by Carroll Lewis.
I'm a sucker for the books on Laffitte and Galveston.

8. Spanish Monuments and Trailmarkers to Treasure in the United States Charles A Kenworthy
9. Death Traps to Treasure Charles A Kenworthy
10. Interpretations of Treasure Signs and Symbols Fred J. Stewart
10-4-07
11. The Ancient World An Historical Perspective Henry C. Boren 2nd edition 407 pages
A fantastic history book. Starts with 2 chapters on early man and Mesopotamia. Then the Egyptians Greeks and other Empires up to Late Rome. The last chapter being modern civilization. One of my favorites. For me it was one of those I read every night until I finished it and it didn't take long.
