New House Progress!

Posted 04-13-2008 at 07:52 AM by Gregory
Figured I'd Blog this new house I'm building for my loving family.
I dug my basement last fall but due to the weather turning cold I had to wait till spring to move forward.
I poured the footer on Friday and installed the french drain on Saturday. Tomorrow (Monday) the block layers come to start the block work. They should have all 1400 block laid this coming week. I'll be glad when the basement is done because I'm sore from all the hand digging and the two day jackhammering I endured last week. I've been battling water running through the rock since day one. I'm tired of the mud & muck.
As soon as the block is layed I'll parge & seal it. I'll then set the steel beam and build the floor. Then the walls go up!!!!

This new house project is long over due as we are tired of this trailer house and lack of space. My kids (4) and wife certainly deserve it.

I'll update this blog maybe once a week.

Hey Creek, I picked up (2) 1000ft rolls of 12/2 last year. I've also purchased about 75% of the wood and all the drywall. I'm trying not to have to borrow any money to build but may need some.

The Block Work is Finished!

Today the mason finished the block work

Next thing I need to do is place a 5/8 steel rebar every 6' down through the block core and cement it. Then I'll set my anchor bolts and place a treated seal plate on top of the block. After that I'll run my drain lines in the floor. I then am required to get it inspected by the county before I can pour the cement floor.
It's moving along nicely. I'm hoping to start framing by the second week in May!

I think I understand that the 2 block insets on the side walls are for a beam. What about the insets on the front and back walls?

They did nice work on the blocks. In Buffalo NY they used poured concrete for basement walls. Only place I've ever seen it done up north.

I use to do the pured foundations in VA in 88.

Their called pilasters Steve. They help strengthen the wall. I have a 10" steel beam that will be set in place soon. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to set it (it's very heavy)
