2007 Goals And How I Did ...

Posted 01-02-2008 at 08:41 PM by NC_Hunting
I did pretty good on my 2007 goals. I met the following goals in 2007 ~ my first coin older than 1900, my first Indian Head Cent, my first V Nickle, my first Standing Liberty Quarter, and my first Large Cent. Each one of these finds was such a thrill and I have realized just how tough it can be to find some of these coins. Some of the goals that I didn't make~ I didn't find a decent gold or silver ring (only junk type rings) and I didn't find a Barber Quarter. I will have to think a bit more...

Cooler Weather & Time To ...

Posted 11-24-2007 at 10:02 AM by NC_Hunting
get the ole Garrett out for some detecting. This summer and the early fall was very hot and humid around here which is a definite deterent to me. Now the weather is cooling and the crops are just about harvested and I am looking forward to getting back to some of the old farmstead sites that I discovered last winter. I've been out twice so far ... once to an old house site that is now a soybean field and once to a 100 year old house that's empty right now about 2 doors down from me. The 100 year...

It's been hot around here ...

so I've not been in the mood to do much mding lately. Also, all the farm fields where I was hunting are planted now so no action there until late fall. I did attempt to hunt an old swimming hole about a week or so ago but I was limited to very shallow water with my machine (I did find 2 clad dimes and several pennies while there). I'm glad to see that there are still a lot of folks on the forum that are finding some neat things. I'm looking forward to cooler weather and a chance to get back...

Things Are Getting Better ...

Posted 03-21-2007 at 11:04 AM by NC_Hunting
or so it seems. I found a couple of silver coins (a '64 Quarter and a '61 Dime) on a short hunt last Sunday. I went out to one of my old farm sites Monday afternoon and found some nice whatnots ( a 1942 dog vaccination tag, a couple of nice buttons, and a few other household thingies) but no coins. This morning I talked with a local farmer about mding some of his properties (at least 5 old abandoned farm houses) and got his permission. I am certainly looking forward to hunting these sites very...

Lately ... If It Weren't For Bad Luck ...

Posted 03-14-2007 at 11:06 AM by NC_Hunting
I wouldn't have any luck at all. It seems for the past week or so, that the best made plan (and site) does not produce. I've hunted my regular sites to death for the past 2 months (with good results) but the 3 or 4 new sites that I've learned about and got permission for have produced nothing but trash. My last couple of hunts have been old house sites (some still standing) that are quite overgrown and you can barely put your coil to the ground without a signal (which turns out to be shredded...
