Friggin rain

Posted 12-26-2006 at 09:11 PM by yallwatchthis
Lots of rain lately but it finally broke today. Not the best of hiking or digging conditions. The site of the old well did give up a large (@ .45 cal) rimfire casing. Took it by a local relic hunters house today. Im not so much interested in the casing itself as its age. He told me it was probably late CW era so I must be in the right general area. Hopefully things will have dried enough overnite to have some reasonable digging conditions tomorrow.
After several days of hard digging Ive...

Found the well finally

Studying topo maps last night helped me get a better feel for this tract. Figuring the well had to lay between one of several sets of ridges I took off climbing them n looking over the bottoms. I found the well after about 3 miles of walking...back n forth through some thick bottoms...backtracking constantly as the well lay in an area where a tornado dropped several large trees allowing the underbrush to get THICK. Well it arrived yesterday and I headed to a local park. Cheated and hunted under the swings in the sand where digging was EZ. Found $1.67 (yee ha) in coin younger than me. But got a good feel for the MD and am shocked how much better it is than my Classic ID. Went ahead and dug some junk it indicated as pull tabs just to get a feel for what it was tellin me. I think Im gonna like this machine as it didnt have me diggin for no reason like my other one.
