Default Just bought one

I'm 30 years old and have wanted a metal detector since I was about 5. So you can imagine how excited I was to finally get one.
Well it appears that there is a short in the coil cord. The only way I can get it to work is if I hold the cord at the base of the coil at a weird angle.
I'm assuming this is a short in the cord or something. Just wanted to ask here before I go about the return process.

Great community you all have here!!

HI Andrew and Welcome to TQ ! Sure sounds like a Short in the cable. I'm not very electrical but enough to think that If Ya move the cable to a certain spot and it works but not if it's in just a natural position then it would be a short. I'm sure someone more knoweldgeable than me will chime In. You can talk to the Sponsors here to. hopefully it's something Ya can take care of yourself. Hope it's an easy Fix for Ya !

Good Luck & HH

Hi andrew and welcome to TQ. It sure sounds like a bad connection. Hope you get it resolved quick after waiting 25 years to get it. What detector did you buy and from where? Maybe you can get them to send another one out while you ship the bad one back. That's what they did with my computer, makes for great customer care. Good Luck!

I bought it from someone on ebay. Yeah it really suck, I just got it for my 30th birthday and was even going to go out and hunt in the snow today but can't. I emailed the person from ebay and sent an email to the manufacturer.

Hopefully one of the two will hook me up really nice.

I read a few reviews and this looked like a good starter machine. I was going to spend around $400 but figured it would be a waste for someone so new.

Welcome Andrew. Definitely sounds like a short and could mean that the coil could leak if under water. You might have to take your lumps and go on with life. Look into the Ace 250, it is a great detector and at reasonable cost.
Also you might think about going through one of the sponsors of the site and purchase from them. They are great and very knowledgeable, and stand behind their sales. Good luck whichever way you go.

Earl

Default ebay

well that makes up my mind about buying something from ebay...you just never know what exactly you are gonna get until the deal is done. It's too bad that you have to wait a little longer but when you get a good machine you'll be making some good finds, i'm sure. did you hear back from the seller, yet? welcome aboard and good to have you here.
