I think a little wider hilt the part above the blade might prevent your hand from hitting the blade if you hit a rock etc. I don't want to critize because you are very Talented but I work in the service industry and can tell you I have purchased scrappers and have cussed to high heaven when my hand slipped. I have put better hilts on several tools. I might have to get one of theses they are the best digging tools I have seen on the web
