Australian Coins

Hey everyone, I'm in Australia for a couple of weeks and was wondering what kind of coins I should get down here. Where do I purchase the mint and silver sets at(if they sell it) here, the banks or what, I have no clue either. The people I am staying with have no clue what or where to get them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Might take a look in the telephone book to see if there are any coin dealers in the area.

Im partial to the US minted Silver Issues !! florins ,six and three pence coins.

But many of the moderns are also collectable , Mob of roos, and many of the half dollar coins.

The large copper One Penny and Half penny coins are also pretty cool !!

I've been here for a week now and still haven't seen any coins from the mint yet. All I have is common change. They have coin shops down here but I have a feeling that I'll be calling them "stealers" instead of dealers.
A bus driver told me to check out the post office because sometimes they issue out commemerative coins with stamps, so maybe thats a start huh?

I wish I would have brought my metal detector. This place is one big rock with a little soil on top. The coins in the ground wouldn't be able to escape my XLT. I sure will post some pic's when I get home. I hate this place.......

Well I finaly found a coin shop here. Unfortunatly it was a small shop in a local mall.Their basic coin set starts at about $38 US. The silver rounds thatyou find in Coin World magazine for $20 is worth it. They want $39 for it locally. Until I find a bigger shop and cheaper prices I am going to keep all of my pocket change and skip the coins for a gift idea.

Gas here is $1.39 a litre and I have seen about 3 SUV's so far. I'm selling my GMC Jimmy!
