Default Any other Barber Half Dollar collectors here?

I set out to build a nice set of Barber halves last year. I have 60 of the 73 coins now, and have built up a real nice trading stock of nearly 60 coins besides. If there's anybody here that has any of the following dates....and wants to sell or trade, speak up. I have continually upgraded the set when the opportunity has arisen, and just this weekend I found 3 "had to" halves.

Here are the dates I still need.....and a couple pictures that are the ones I just bought....which are representative of the minimum grade that I'm looking for....VG-10 to F-12 or better. The 1909-O is at the lower end of that scale, but it was too cheap to pass up.

1892-P
1892-O
1892-S
1893-O
1893-S
1894-P
1895-S
1896-O
1896-S
1897-O
1897-S
1898-S
1915-P

I've added a picture of my trading stock too just in case anybody has an interest. Inquire with any specific needs. There are some good ones in there, and some real "lollipops" too. The "Lollipops" and "Smoochers" are from lots I bought to get a specific coin, or for bullion. Those are my own pet names for the AG and G coins.

Good luck Rip. That's one coin I've never dug. People in this area were working for scrip during the years those would have circulated freely, so chances are very slim that I'll be finding any of those.

The toughest part of completing the set lies ahead. The ones I need are all spendiferous ones in the grade I'm seeking, so it could take years from this point out to complete the set. It will be a set worth owning though. I just won't put "slugs" in it to fill holes.

I wonder how many lifetimes it would take to dig a set of these? Consider this. All of the Barber half dollars ever minted from 1892 to 1915....is less than the mintage of 1964-D Kennedy halves.

There are umpteen coins in the series with mintages of a half a million or so coins. They are undervalued in my opinion....simply because it was a set that was too tough to put together before the internet. It's amazing that for less than 17 bucks delivered......you can buy an R-3 or R-4 rated coin (1911-D) in F-12 if you're in the right place at the right time.

I agree that the Barber halves or for that matter pretty much the whole series is under valued,,

I have collected a few of them but have not gotten to serious with them as a series.

Wyatt You have made a good choice ,,I expect to see the market equalize on these coins in the next few years and a complete set even at the VG to F level will command a pretty good premium above the cost of putting them together now.

I picked up all 3 of the coins in the pictures above....for less than 15 dollars each...including postage. The 1907-S edges the one currently in my set, but the 1899 and the 1909-O both go into my trading stock.

The 1907-S in F-12 on numismedia is an 80 dollar coin...so I done good for sure, paying 30.55 ppd for that pair. I paid 14 bucks ppd for the 1909-O....a 40 dollar coin in F-12. It helps to make up for a couple that I got into a p***ing contest over and which I probably paid a bit more than I maybe should have.

I think that one day there will be more awareness of the Barber coins, and consequently more demand, and acquisitions like these will be fond memories.

Wyatt

Hi Everyone, I love Barber coins and especially the half dollar. I don't collect them but do need one for my type set. I would like to find one in AU to BU condition but they are very pricey in that grade. Ok looks like y'all have a good start on your collections and best of luck in completeing them.

After I get a few recent acquisitions in, I'll post a couple pictures of the last 2 pages. It's looking really nice.

If you want to fnd a nice AU Barber....watch eBay. They show up. I bought an EF-40 1901 for 39.95 not too far back. They show up from time to time...but you have to be on top of it, because they don't stay on the radar for long before somebody pops them....sometimes it's me...but, sometimes I click on something new...and it's already gone, having been up for maybe 10 minutes.
