Default 1916-D Barber quarter

Hey Pap......I think I did OK on this one. What do you think it's worth?

Nice Find! Does it look G-6 to you?

I'd say it's closer to VG-8.....and a total of 3 letters are visible on the headband. The photograde book I have confirms that grade. In G-4, the rim may be worn into the tops of the letters on the reverse. I'd say that this series could be graded more easily and accurately from the reverse side of the coin than the obverse.

I paid 7 dollars (including postage) for this one. I'd love to find them this nice. If I did...I'd never sell one. I don't collect the quarters, but it was an attractive one....and cheap, so I bought it.

Default ..prime example of funkiness of the series...

Hey Greg.....By strict ANA standards, this coin should be graded F-12....but the rest of the obverse features more closely resemble one of a VG-8 coin. Likewise, the reverse is no better than a VG.

I think these should be graded by weight. The "How many letters in Liberty" method is quite unreliable.

Yea, after looking at this new pic the obverse might make Fine but if the reverse grades VG then your net grade would be VG

I look at the head ban first as it is high spot on this coin.

Agreed, the coin's a VG-8.......but this half almost doesn't meet my standards for my collection...and has a nearly full liberty in the headband. I have some that have fewer letters showing which are clearly less worn. I'm more likely to grade the coin by how much detail is left in the face....rather than relying on the headband.

BTW....that's a different coin. It was just a good example of how difficult it is to judge this series by the headband alone.

I never liked this series....but have grown fond of it recently. Let's find a place to dig some up!
