Default help what do i DO!!

I've been wondering about this for a while now and i need some help . (pictured here is 1995 s proof set) just one of my proof sets that i have . there is no visible crack or hole in the plastic but the penny is corroded badly. the nickel is dull and discolored and the dime is slightly discolored . the quarter and half are fine . should i take them out . and repackege them ?? or take them to a coin dealer. i used to live were we had bad sulfur water . and i know thats what did it . now i live in jackson but i dont want the coins to get any worse .. will taking the coins out diminish the value of the coins .. sadly i have other sets a 1980,1978, that also have some coins that are corroded ..

Hi Lucasi

The proofsets in these plastic cases are not airtite sealed, the most common cause of this type of discoloration is humidity and temperature changes.

sadly there is nothing that can be done for the affected coins, but the ones that have not been affected should be removed, and placed in a stable environment, airtites or similar coin holder, store them with silica packs to help absorb the moisture and some place where the temp remains fairly constant.

If you use a swamp cooler in the summer and gas heat in the winter both are high humidity sources. the coins need to be protected from.

The best thing you can do is break open the case using the knife attachment on a pocket knife at the crack where the two halves of the case close. Do this very carefully as severed fingers are no fun. Start at the corners. The half dollar and the quarter are DEFINITELY worth your while saving, as the 1995 is a valuable set and they are the most valuable coins in the set. There is nothing you can do for the nickel and cent. The dime may not be as bad off as you think, it might look much better when you open the case.

Best of luck to you.

P.S.- The coins are more valuable on their own at this point.
