Sacajawea colored penny.

I have a 2004 Sacajawea colored penny. Is it worth anything other than a penny? I was wondering if they made a mistake at the mint?

Thats a Good Question. I never heard of her ( can't spell her name either ) on a Penny. Been looking through different sites and don't see anything about one. hope it's a rare bird and you caught it.

Could you post a photo along with a ruler for scale? She was on a dollar coin, but I don't think there was a penny.

I have a 2004 Sacajawea colored penny.

It's a 2004 penny that is gold color like the Sacagawea, I thought I stated that correctly. If it were a penny sized dollar I'd have some extra moneyin my pocket.

I was recently shown a penny (pre 1982) that looked like it was steel or a somewhat shiny zinc, the weight was too heavy for zinc at 3.22g, and on close examination with a loop, it was clear it had been plated (probably with Mercury). (copper weight should be 3.11g and zinc should be 2.5g)

The lesson here is to check to see if yours has been plated, I recall a number of coins being anodized with gold when I worked Aviation Electronics in the service. Plating is easy to do with a number of processes.

cjoej,i got a real zink only penny,i thought it was a 43 steel,put it in my wallet and pulled it out two years later and it was bent,i tried to bend it back and it broke,boy was i surprised!!!!!
