I just tumble my clad in a little gravel, water and dish washing soap. Take them to the bank and have never had a problem with them not taking them. I think if you can still read the coin at all they will take them. Again, I have never had them turn down coins.

Tiger,
I have wondered this myself but since most clad that I dig is black, green, brown or some other crazy un-natural color, I usually just dump it all off at the coinstar machine. The only downside to that is they charge you 8.9 cents for every dollar that the machine counts for you. I think it's worth it though since I would be embarrased to take in say $20 worth of black coins to the bank.
The other thing is Zinc pennies... if they've been in the ground for more than a week they are usually totally worthless due to corrosion so I just toss them.
Tumbling your clad does work to clean them up quite a bit and makes them more "spendable", if you will. But you have to invest in the price of a tumbler.

Here's what i do , tumbler, add aquarium rock , arm and hammer washing soda ( not baking soda) some water , add clad coins , no penny;s , do those separatly, Tumble, change water when its dirty and continue for about 12 hours , until water is pretty clean,, cleans mine , brand new almost , no bank problem .

I do the same thing that dave does and so far I haven't had any trouble at all.

Tiger4life,

I agree with what the others have said, tumble 'em. Different people have different formulas of what to put in there, but you just have to try what works for you. Below is a link from when this came up and what others have tried. Good luck.

Thanks guys, my son got a tumbler for christmas last year. Ill give it a try, the black coins is what i was worried about. I thought about just rolling them and then turn them in, i guess theres no hope for the zinc pennies. I guess im getting the hang of the ace since im finding some coins. I cant wait to find some old coins but im going to stick to clads in shallow ground
