Default What kind of Digital camera do you use....

to take close ups, a good M-Pix, good zoom.
Something in the $200 -$350 dolllar range.
What are good features to look for?

I know I miss my Macro mode switch my old 1 mega pixel camera had. It was so handy for taking upclose pictures of my coin collection. I have a hard time taking upclose pictures with my Sony Cybershot. I know the features I want on my next camera:
Macro mode
5x Optical zoom or more
Manual Focus
Image Stabilization
One other problem I have run into with my sony is the battery life, I upgraded to 2500mah batteries and taking pictures inside with low light mode or flash it will run out of juice before I run out of memory.

I am a Canon SLR guy myself so I can't really suggest a good macro camera for under about $600. I used to have a 2 megapixle canon powershot a20 with a cheap macro adaptor that did ok. The problem I have with the point and shoot cameras and closeups is focusing on what I want to focus on. The benefit to the SLR is I can manually focus the lense however I want. If you can afford to go a little higher in price you can't hardly beat the canon digital rebel IMHO.

P&S cameras can do a decent job of closeups. Here is a closeup of a portion of a very small pocket watch done with a Canon G7. This shot was taken in the field, and was not under the best of conditions.

There are some good choices available in your price range. I have found the Canon A series to be very good at macro as well. I have an A610 that will focus at 0 inches that is a 5mp camera with full manual controls and a 4x zoom that I will be selling on the classifieds, if you're interested. This is a highly rated camera, but I don't really use it because of the other cameras I have. I bought one for my son, and his wife, when they were looking for a good, affordable, camera.

Hope this helps,
Otto...

I recently won one of these exact "packages" on Ebay. It is factory refurbished to like new condition. I probably will not recieve it until next week. I did quite a bit of research before deciding in this particular one. It was same way as when deciding on the Ace 250; very tight budget so needed most bang for buck.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I got away with it for $82.00!

I'm not exactly sure since I haven't recieved it yet. Besides the camera, I also bid on a camera dock/printer and a DVD recorder from the same seller. This all dragged on for a little over a week before I finally was high bidder on those items. I just recieved final invoice reflecting multiple item shipping discount so now I can submit payment. The camera is 7.1 megapixels and it description says that "close up" is one of a number of different programmed modes. I pasted a link to the exact camera "package" that I won. The seller has some of these at "buy it now" and some starting off at very low bids. I did win mine at just $82.
