I would suggest you go to C/NET and type in a search. It will really open your eyes for SVP. I found the site AFTER I won a bid on on of their 12 Mega-pixel DC-12X cameras. When it arrived, I was still thrilled at what I got until I started reading the owners manual. It explains how to get to each function of the camera, but not why or how to use the function. It is also written by someone definitely not of American heritage. Please, I am not being racist here, but in some cases it is very hard to understand what they are talking about in the manual. Also, the software for the drivers will not download because it is not recognizable by Microsoft.
The camera says it is a 12 mpx, but in reality it is a 3 mpx, 12mpx INTER-POLATED.I took pictures inside of my kids and grandkids on Easter with some backlighting involved and had all the adjustments set and you still could not see their faces. It takes decent pictures outside, I will give it that. It seems to be an O.K. camera for an absolute beginner as myself, but I also found an auction on E-Bay where for $99.95 "Buy Now" I got a Panasonic 5 mpx. LZ3. This is last years model but was new in a sealed box. I took the exact same pictures in the exact same lighting that day with the Panasonic and the outcome was absolutely amazing. The faces and everything in the background and foreground were crystal clear and the detail was outstanding.
I have resigned myself to the fact that I will use the SVP at camp outdoors for everyday shots but for special or "keeper" shots the Panasonic will be used. Maybe after playing with all the functions on the SVP for awhile I will come to appreciate it more. After all I really haven't given it that much of a chance yet, but I wish I would have found that C/NET site befor I bought it. The Panasonic is set to "easy" mode right now and still outshines the SVP by 100%. Do some research is my opinion. I wish I had!!
