The best way to get a "sure shot" of fireworks is to take a timed exposure. This is done by setting the camera on a tripod and aiming it towards the part of the sky where the fireworks are displaying. The camera may have a "bulb" feature. This feature enables the shutter to remain open for however long you wish to keep it open. When the fireworks display, close the shutter and you will have the shot on your image on your camera. I like to do this for lightening photographs. If you prefer to capture shots of fireworks without the use of a tripod, it is best to capture them at a professional display where fireworks are going off nearly every second. I would zoom in on them to fill the frame.
