Default How to make detail show up?

I want to take a couple pictures of the steel pennies I just unearthed from the closet. How do I get them to where you can see the detail? I have a 5 inch magnifying glass. Can I just take the picture through it?

If you have a high pixel camera, back off to about 10 inches and then bring it into a photo editing progam and crop it...

if you have a scanner, they work great on showing detail... just scan it at a high rez and it will be great...

Thanks,
I have a scanner and since that seems to be the easiest I will try it first.

Look for the setting with the little flower on it.

Have two light sources. A general fill light pretty much straight in, then place one off to the side and shine across the coin to give it some highlights and shadows.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. For the time being I will just use the scanner. This seems to be my best option as my light sources are not that great. When I use the lights the coins look washed out, almost like slugs.
