Ok, here we go. The subject for the next contest is Historic Structures or Monuments. Old foundations off in the woods, markers, buildings, old churchs, court houses, you get the idea. 1 entry per person. Contest ends May 11th. Good Luck! Post all pics to the thread. Prize to be a 1987 American Silver Eagle. One Ounce of silver is not bad the way it's going up. This is only the second year the coin was struck and would be something to hold on to for a child or grandchild. Now get those pictures in.

THE OLD SHELDON CHURCH

Sheldon Church has lain in ruin for more than 120 years. Its gable roof, pediment, windows, and interior have disappeared, but the classic simplicity of its design still remains. One of the first Greek Revival structures built in the United States, Prince William's Parish Church, erected 1745-55, was once one of the most impressive churches in the Province. During the Revolution, the Patriots are believed to have stored gun powder in it. In 1779, when the British General Augustine Prevost invaded the Lowcountry, the church was burned by a detachment which according to tradition, was commanded by the flamboyant local Tory, Andrew Deveaux. Rebuilt in 1826, the church was again burned by Sherman's men in 1865. The ruins are nevertheless a picturesque site from which the visitor can visualize the grandeur of the pre-Revolutionary church.

Oak Island light house on Caswell beach. Built in 1958 in the mouth of the Cape Fear river, it's four blinks, pause and four blinks have saved some ships from running aground on the sand bars but with the ever shifting sand bars some still didn't make it. Thats where the Cape Fear got it's name, Captains fear this spot.

This is the old Minnewaska pump house near Peterskill parking area west of New Paltz. I don't have a detector yet, but this is definitely on my to do list for when I finally get one.
