I really like the vibraprobe 560 and would be lost without it. If you are going to get the Whites buy the newest one as it has better distance.

Don't know about the 120 or 140 but did have the automax. it was vey big & bulky and not the best built. You might want to check out the Vibra-Propes, I as well as alot of others here have the 560 and are very happy with them, they now came out with the 570 wich is suppose to go 1&3/4 to 2" . Didn't know if your familiar with them. Hopes this helps a little.

I have an automax and have to agree with Tinman about the automax being big and bulky. Also broke the probe in the first hole I stuck it in. Luckily the wires didn't break. Took a piece of split pvc and made a sleeve and is tight enough that I didn't glue it. Works like a charm and very sensitive. I like the fact that it adjustable.

I never have used a vibraprobe so really can't compare but have seen good things written about it.

I have the newest model Automax. I have broken and super-glued the probe 3 times. I will eventually do the PVC modification as the wires pulled back a bit and the tip is not as sensitive. The Automax does work and I like the adjustable sensitivity, but it is huge, hard to carry efficiently and not rugged at all. I use a 25’ tape measure holster to carry it on my belt as the built in clip is a bit useless in my opinion.

I have heard great things about the Vibra-probe and have the new model on pre-order for delivery in the next week or so.

I know we just got the VibraProbe and VibraTector in recently. If you have any questions feel free to give Kellyco a call just to chat with someone. Having said that, I've heard great things about the VibraProbe from my coworkers. Hope this helps, or rather, hope WE can help!

Here's our link, and I'm pretty sure our number is plastered all over the page, lol!

So far I've found one very old license plate, a lot of nails, some funky green pennies and other misc. change.. but who's counting? I'm just here to have fun, giggle, and make friends along the way!

I've got the Automax and it works ok for me; when it dies, I'll go find something else. I agree it is bulky, but I know when it's on (something I wonder about with those non-adjustable, auto units like the vibraprobe -- some user can tell me if it really is a valid concern or not) and I can adjust sensitivity to really help pinpointing elusive targets. My first one went belly-up (coil shorted) in the first day and had to be sent back but was immediately replaced with a new unit. I've not had problems since. My summary would be:

Pros:
  • Positive on
  • LED and vibration alert (I never use the audio)
  • Long probe sensitive at sides and end allows for great detection down deep holes and in the sides
  • Range is pretty good, I'd say out to about 1.5" on a coin-sized target
  • Adjustable sensitivity is great when you're trying to find those anoying tiny targets
  • Long battery life (9 Volt) -- one battery can last me all season.
  • Was included with my detector purchase
  • Lightweight
Cons:
  • Big and cumbersome
  • Long probe requires some TLC to be sure you don't break it
  • Design makes me nervous on rainy days (I don't expect it's terribly water resistant)
  • Worthless belt clip -- I cary mine in my off-hand all day
