I'd be interested to know if it could detect 1/2 gram nugget in a crack of bed rock!

I just received mine in last week from HF. I agree with dishtech about how the unit detects signals. I used a clad dime to calibrate the sensitivity and it is currently set to only the tip of the pinpointer. It will detect very slightly on the sides if you turn up the sensitivity which maybe needed for smaller targets. For the price I am very happy. I did end up putting a piece of clear tape accross the buzzer since I thought it was quite loud. I may end up replacing the buzzer or adding a toggle for a LED/light indicator. This would allow me to keep my headphones on and probably increase battery life as well.

That being said I think the casing could be a little sturdier. Once I get a little more motivated and I may end up opening the box to seal the unit with epoxy or something similar in case I get caught in the rain since only the shaft is labeled as water proof.

I'm with ya on the Whites Bull's eye. It lies way to much, and you can see the metal b 4 it detects it.
