its a coin that someone has tapped the edges with a spoon or somthing. Havnt you ever heard of kids doing this? Similir to the proccess of making coin rings. I have a penny that looks exactly the same. I am pretty sure thats what this is all about.

Yep, I made a nice silver ring that way from a quarter. Take forever and then some. Use to carry it around and work on it time permitting.
