Default copper dimes

A friend got 2 dimes in her change yesterday. They look to be copper plated the woman at the store said she got a roll of em,but these were the last 2.Any ideas as to weather there error coins(experimental planchet ?) or just plated for some reason ? One is a 1987 and the other is a 1997

Rip,

Not sure about the dimes but reading your palm tells me that you will strike it rich within the next 2 months. When you do, remember your forum buddy who foretold the glorious event!

Since the dates are so far apart, maybe someone was experimenting with a plating kit. Just my guess. Great find anyways

I was experimenting with some chemicals at work once in a cheap attempt to clean my metal detecting treasures. I believe it was hydrosulferic acid and acetic acid or maybe it was soda ash?!? Well anyway's it worked rather well except for the fact that it turned all those coins a pinkish/copper color. I'm guessing that this is what happened to your coins. That was about 4 or 5 years ago and I think I did have a whole roll of copper dimes and half a roll of quarters. Maybe those were the ones I found? Hope this helps. Jason

Default Pink Coins

Once when I tumbled my Coins, I used B.B.'s It turned them all pink. I used to separate the silver clad from the pennies too, because if 1 penny is in there it will also turn them Pink.
