What do you think Metalman?....The scarce overdate?there are several on ebay right now, so there must be a few out there still.
I guess I'll know when it gets here....but for 20 bucks....it was worth a chance. Sure looks like it might be the overdate. Looks horribly cleaned, but the same coin's reverse picture...was taken without a flash, and appears to be natural and not cleaned. Flash photography is really tricky...and can cost you money. Actually, even if it's not...I wanted a nicer 1918 to complete this year set. I have a 1918 merc in EF that I dug last year, so that will be added to this set also. It'll be a nice set at that point. I paid 32 bucks for it as you see it. The half was described as being in G-5/6 condition...but it's in VF. Even if it's the common S minted one, it's worth what I paid for the whole set. If it's a philly minted one....triple. Wyatt Last edited by Wyatt Earp; 02-17-2007 at 08:36 AM. |

If the 7 dollars includes postage you're OK. I look at mercs as being, at a buck each, including postage.....retail. After that....early dates in higher grades are what I'm looking for....cheap. I got a note from the guy I bought the 4 mercs from....said since I paid him so quickly, he included a bonus. I wonder what he stuck in there?.....hmmm.
I do a lot of ebay detecting....too much probably....but have made some nice buys. I have bought silver below melt 3 times in the past 2 weeks. The deals are there....but you really have to dig (but your knees don't get dirty). I even do searches using misspelled search terms hoping to catch somebody selling something at a great price that few people will see if they use correctly spelled search terms. Search for dines, quaters, dollors, sliver coins.......stuff like that. Wyatt |

There are over 132,000 US coin listings on ebay right now. You have to have some knowledge of numismatics to find the deals....and lots of time. Most of what's on there is overpriced, overgraded merchandise, with exhorbitant postage charged on top of already higher than retail pricing. You will have to dig, dig, dig if you are going to find a genuine bargain...but they do come up from time to time.
There are some decent deals in the auctions right here on treasurequest too, and I may eventually do some selling here. Wyatt |
