At my 28th birthday. I started to smoke at 24 but used to do it ocassionally at parties and get togethers but not really all the time. Thing about it is that I used to sometimes smoke 1 or 2 packs of Marboro Red all at once and then not smoke anything for a while. In my opinion if you are going to smoke a cigarette smoke a real good one like the regular red Marboro's. I do not believe in this light and ultralight crap. No matter which cigarette you smoke they will all kill you the same. For about the last year 27 - 28 I became a regular smoker buying about 1 pack everyday and before I turned 28 years old I just took a good look in the mirror that morning and told myself "28 is a good age to quit" after that day I never smoked a cigarette ever again. Honestly it was not hard at all for me. Maybe it was because I did not really smoke that long. My hardest habit that I fully stopped at about 30 is biting my nails.

Any doctor would most likey say don't do it. Also it might be a slippery slope back to cigs if you go that way and from what I have read, pipes and cigars still have a real oral and throat health danger issue. I know folks that smoke cigars a couple times a month only, but who knows the long term effects? Genetic predisposition plays a big roll.
Keep it up, best of luck! |

i had never tried to quit smoking 30 yr,i loved it too good.but the dr told me i had better give them up and i told her only way i could quit was to be locked up...so she wrote me a perscription for chantix,so far i havent had any trouble with wanting to smoke .i still reach for them in my pocket(habit)but double bubble gum is there now. i think this is some good medicine if you are wanting to quit and not loose your sanity.try it..creek

Yay for you guys!!
Just keep thinking of all the good things and they will outweigh the urge to "have just one." I've finally gotten so I can go have a drink at a pub without bumming cigs from people. Bless those people who all put up with me! And last week I was doing some sorting and pitching and cleaned out the pockets in suitcases and set them out to air. In the pocket of one suitcase was a brand new never opened pack of smokes. I tossed it without even the urge to open it. If I can finally make the hurdle, anyone can. Wishing you guys all the best! |

Good luck tomkat and Out4gold,
I quit July 2, 2004 after 10 yrs. and sometimes still crave but focus on other things (like MDing) when I do. You can do it - I know you can. Tomkat - I noticed the sensitive smell after a few days also, to this day I can even tell if the person in the car in from of me on the road is smoking, just from smelling smoke, windows closed. Keep up the great work, it'll be one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family/friends.
