Tinman,
Zack (my 7 yr. old son) gave me a rechargeable battery last Thursday from the charger to use as a spare that was cool to the touch but after about 20 minutes in my pocket, I could feel it warming up. Then, when I tried the battery and it was dead. There was nothing else in my pocket at the time. Overall, kinda like you described. Since I had just bought it nd several more at Radio Shack the day before, I took it back in and explained what was going on. They tested the battery and said it was bad and the heat was due to an internal short and replaced the battery. I was told this usually only happens after the battery has been charge a lot but sometimes the new ones are defective as well. This could possibly be what happened with yours. So far I have had two like this. James

It wasn't rechargable and was pretty new and I didn't have anything else in my pocket so thats probably it. Just goes to show you, even if something is new doesn't mean it can't be defective. Thank You's for your replies! HH.

No it wasn't really hot enough to really sweat. I did have this happen once or twice before but I chalked it up to the fact that the battery was in my pocket as I was driving with the sun beating down thru the window on my pants leg. Was not the case this time tho. Yes It was REALLY HOT. Enough that I won't carry a battery in my pocket even for a few minutes.
