Default Waterlogged at the moment.

Just had some severe storms roll through this area and everything is flooded. Ought to make penetration deeper and for easier digging... If I had a canoe...

We got swamped to say the least and I remembered that Zack ran to put his Ace 250 in my truck right when the rain hit so I went to get it.. It got a little wet to say the least and I am hoping that not much water got inside.

This rain came without warning.. We were MDing at a local park, heard a clap of thunder and the water just came in sheets. According to the evening news we have more rain coming. It was like someone spraying us with a fire hose. My GTA 300 got wet as well.. I am more worried about Zacks 250 than I am my 300. This is the first time his unit has seen rain..

Default weather gear

My whites Spectrum XLT came with weather gear. Basically a a canvas and velcro bag that fits over the mechanics in case of rain. Might be worth checking into.

Wow! Sounds like you're going to have a few days to plan where you're gonna go after the water recedes. I hope your machines are okay and recover just fine. This would be a good time for me to put my rain cover in my gear bag, I think. Thanks for the reminder!

Default Waterlogged

Boobie,

We had baggies in the truck but didn't figure we would need them because normally around here it sprinkles some before the heavy rain. Call it an error of judgment on my part for not taking a couple with me. Guess I have been away from detecting too long and forgot old habits..

Anyway, I checked out the 250, only about three drops of water was in the unit.. In the battery compartment. Everything else was dry. I asked Zack how he managed to keep it from getting soaked and he said he wrapped his backpack around it.. (smart kid.. I didn't have my pack to cover mine with..) When it started raining I told him to run and try to keep his detector from getting too wet.

When we were eating breakfast this morning he asked me, "Dad, why didn't you just use your hat to keep your detector from getting wet?" His idea was simple, would have worked and I never thought of it.

My dad called this morning to see if we were floating or not and I told him what happened and he laughed... He mentioned a trick he learned in the military (He was Korean War) and that he reapplied when detecting.. He said to put two condoms in my wallet and use them next time. Simple, cheap and could provide the extra protection in more than one way..

That would work if I could talk my wife into letting me carry them, and if I ever had to use one I better have proof it was raining or she would shoot me.

Meanwhile, looking out in the garage I see that rubberized diesel truck tarp my brother gave me... Hmmmmm... a little primer and glue.... maybe I wouldn't need to carry those condoms afterall...
