Default Storm damage

Had a quick storm come through today. It blew down part of a large tree onto a friends deck.Luckly it did only minor damage. The worst part is that the rest of the very old tree will probably have to be cut down.Onyx the cat seemed to like it though.

Yup I've detected all around that old tree ! The limb that fell was just a small part of the rest of the tree. The house was built in the 1830's and I have yet to find anything older than the 1950's there ! I think it may have had filldirt added over the years.

Default Storm blowing through

I've seen some old trees take a heck of a beating and they are still standing. If the tree doesn't die this summer, maybe they can prune it back this winter to help balance the weight load and help it's overall appearance. From what I can tell of the photo, it looks like the limb had been cracked for a while and finally gave way.

Be sure to detect all forks with in reach of this tree before it is removed if that is what they decide.. My first and only gold coins came from a fork of an old tree I was clearing out to make way for a parking lot in Ft. Worth. The tree grew around the coins and they were embedded in the wood. Kinda like some trees grow around barb wire and all. Me and my stepfather once found an old hand forged logging chain in the middle of a tree we were cutting down. Apparently it was left hanging in the tree and the tree grew around it. Ruined a good chainsaw chain that day. We have even found old bottles in them, so you never know what may be inside that old tree. Worth checking out.

Also, if they decide to have it removed, stay close by with the detector in case they have a crew remove and/ or grind the stump as well. Looks like a good "treasure" tree to me.. When I was little, I used to bury money besides all the big trees growing in our yard. We would play Pirates and make maps to try to find the treasure. A lot of times we got sidetracked on something else and forgot.. LOL
