I put my never used 4" coil on and it worked fine. The MD was in dry dock for about a year so I know it wasn't wet. It does have some scratches on the bottom but not deep, just a little of the black coating scratched off. There's also a bit of sand grains wedged between the metal and the plastic frame. So question is, if water got in there (or sand) do I just chuck the coil out? Lesson learned: Use a coil cover and clean it out after every use!

Hi,
As a first metal detector i bought an used old coinmaster 6000/D series 2 but it doesn't work.
It needs two battery : 9v and 12v, i've correctly plugged them in, and turned the detector on!
During less than a second i hear a sound crash, proof that it turns on, and also when i turn it off.
I do a "battery check" for the 9v battery the pointer comes to max, same thing for the 12v one, the charge is ok!
And after that impossible to detect something, no sound, the pointer stay to 0. I've done a lot of test but there is no reaction.

I want to do some test to know why it doesn't work. I suspect the coil to have a problem, but how should i test it?
I took some measures with a multimeter on the receptable where i fix the cable that goes to the coil. I found some volts here, so i ask my self if the coil is not defect.
To test the coil, could i simulate something on the receptable? (by giving electric schock on a pin?)

Thanks to help me

Anyone have any luck sealing up a coil? If so, how do I do it?

Hi all, just wanted to update you guys on my new disappointment (detector). Bought a slightly used explorer xs off ebay and played around with it for a couple months thinking I would re-search the ground I have pounded with my bounty hunter and clean up more goodies. What a joke.
First of all it's horribly heavy and unbalanced. Secondly, I am not at all impressed with it's depth capability. For the price this machine was new, I would have been pissed paying that much for it. For $300 my bounty hunter will find most true targets at the same depth and it pinpoints much, much better. Not near as heavy either. I'm trying to sell it to recoup some of my cash I wasted on this toy! Maybe there is something wrong with it, but as far as I can tell there isn't. Anyone have an opinion for a high end coin shooter? That is mostly what I look for.
I'm not brand bashing, I love my GP extreme, I just wanted to voice my frustration with this model.
