Default Received my 1236-X2 today

I ordered a Fisher 1236-X2 and received it today. Now alittle note on the Fisher 1236-X2, I didn't get time today to take it to the parks but in my yard I turned it on set the discrimination get a beep- dug down about 5 or 6 inches and out comes a small nail. I said oh great I have iron disc. out and still got a nail - well I thought that is about the way my luck goes, so as I was putting the dirt back in the hole a dime was hiding in the dirt that came out of the hole with the nail. I read that the 1236 will find goodies next to nails & they are right. I think that I am going to like this beep & dig machine. The only thing I didn't care for was the little sticker on the detector that reads assembled in Taiwan. I was thinking that Fisher was 100% American made. Will report back after trying a few parks, etc. Steve.

Hi Steve, Ok I am glad to hear you got the 1236 but I didn't know they are being made in taiwan now. I am very sad to see this but it sounds like they still work as well as ever. You made a great choice Steve. I think you know that Fisher was bought out by the Bounty Hunter people. So Fisher in my opinion is gone now. I only have 2 units left in stock from the old Fisher that I ordered from them before they sold out, a 1236X2 and an ID EXCEL. But if they haven't changed anything at the Bounty Hunter company(First Texas) the Fishers still will work as they should. You do have a good machine Steve. Ok thanks for the post and I hope you can get some metal detecting done now and enjoy! God Bless ya Steve.

Hi John, I didn't say my 1236 was made in Taiwan, it was assembled there. And my understanding is that Fisher & Bounty Hunter are completely seperate businesses. So Fisher is still alive and well. And the feeling my dealer got after talking with a top cheese at First Texas is that Fisher is going to be kept going and that Bounty Hunter might be phased out. This is my dealer's opinion only I repeat not wrote down in stone. Here is a question I posted on another forum & I would like your opinion also if you don't mind.

Hi all I got to try out my new 1236-X2 today at the park. I dug .99 cents - 8 dimes 3 nickels 4 pennies. I have to learn how to "size" the target when pinpointing alittle better yet. The pinpoint on the 1236 is great, right on the target. The 1236 is well balanced just a tad heavier than the Cibola I had. Discrimination isn't too bad. Targets come in nice & loud.

My concern is that I don't think it has the depth that I am thinking it should have. Although I found .99 cents in the same park I have pounded with alot of other machines in the past none of them were deeper than probably 4 inches.

My question is - The 1236 came with batteries from the factory, general purpose duty not alkaline. In my opinion I would never put a general purpose battery in anything. I once had a Garrett Freedom Ace Plus and put in 3 new 9 volt general purpose batteries & it wouldn't even turn on. Tried alkalines and it fired right up. So if I slap in a couple of 9 volt energizers in my 1236 do you think I might get better depth & possibly better performance? Thanks! Now I'm a genuine Fisher fool lol! Thanks! Steve.
P.S. When I turned it to the battery test feature it sreamed out loud using the factory batteries.

Hi Steve,
I bought a 1236x2 6 yrs ago and love it at iron infested sites and areas where modern trash isn't too heavy.

I use the 8" and 5" coils on mine and get solid audio hits about 5" to 6" max actual depth on penny-dime sized targets depending on settings using the 5" coil and get solid audio about 7" to 8" max on penny- dime sized targets using the 8" coil.

I have a Modified Whites IDX Pro and find the 1236x2 to be very comparable with simiar coils. The Minelab Advantage gets a little better depth overall than both for me which i feel is due to the mineralized soil conditions as it is designed around the DD Coil.

I never used a Tesoro but find the little Fisher 1236x2 to be a sensitive detector and found the discrimination settings and audio response to be very consistant, allowing for fairly accurate conductivity ID as there is NO target ID readout.

I agree that only quality batteries should be used and get about 35 to 40 hrs use out of a good set using headphones. The 1236x2 is at least as good or better than any other detector in it's price range in my opinion as long as your willing to dig based on audio response. HH Bill

Default Fisher Response on the 1236X2

Hello,
I had some reservations about First Texas buying Fisher. I sent an email to Fisher and here is their response for what it's worth:

Fisher may be in a new location and managed under a bigger name,
but this has not effected the manufacturing quality of any of our
products. We still manufacture every unit you mentioned as up to par as
before, and if not that, then even better. We have high standard
Quality
Control on all stocks and every product before, during and after actual
production.

Thank you

To me it was a win situation for First Texas they got Dave Johnson and other well known engineers along with great fisher technoligy..just look at there newer units..F2,F75,F70,F5 and more to come..first texas is on the rise and fisher units will be well designed But they might use several BH houseings to save cost..at least there building new machines instead of just offering new coils and calling it a new machine..
and If anything bounty hunter will reap rewards from such engineers..
congrats on the new machine..
