I own one of these fine underwater finders. It has worked great over the years but an accident last year physically damaged the search coil. If you know these machines, you know the cable connections are factory sealed and watertight. Not detachable by user type connectors. I have inspected the Fisher 10" Spider coil for the 1200 series. It has a Canon type connector for attachment to the control unit. I want to cut off that connector and make a watertight splice to the original cable to the search coil. (I am an old electronics tech and quite comfortable with solder splicing small diameter wires, and I am confident I can make the splice watertight with layers of heat shrink tubing and RTV).
The questons: The new coil cable is molded. Does anyone know if the internal wires are color coded? IF they are, are the color codes the same as the original coil cable cable? Any advice? I know I'm going to hear a "You're nuts!!" or two, so please fire away! |
