Default Day 2 with the F2

Another day, another park, another lesson learned.

Today i hunted a site with less iron infestation but definately has it's share and due to the size of this park there were areas with less modern trash and was able to open up the sensitivity for the chance at some deeper targets as long as i didn't get too close to the Amtrak lines My favorite features on the F2 are the very quick recovery speed along with the easily discernible 4 tone ID. It also appears the F2 is very sensitive and will hit on very small pieces of foil along with tiny bits of canslaw thats easily noticed when using 0 disc.

Started out using the 4" coil with the sole purpose of finding some older coins mixed with modern trash as i knew this park has the potential to produce something pre 65 at relatively shallow depths but the target masking is horrendous and most of the easy pickins are long gone. The F2 kicked out 4 more wheats at depths between 2" to 4" and most gave an initial hightone with obvious masking that produced some doubts but if the hightone/zinc repeated at two sweep angles and didn't revert to 07 or 08 i dug. Thumbs up here..for excellent target separation.

About 2 hrs into this venture i switched over to the 8" concentric attempting to make some deeper finds which happened but a 60's memorial penny about 5" was the deepest keeper at a large open area with less compacted soil. It seems the F2 is capable of more depth due to signal strength and accuracy of the hightone id at 5" .My digger is marked at 1" increments to determine depth approximations .

So far found over $9 in clad and a pile of junk along with confidence the F2 is capable of more and should be one of the easiest detectors to get your money back with even minimal success. Just some thoughts from day two. HH Bill

Good post, Bill. Sounds like you are getting her in tune. $9 in clad (as you know) is a great count for 2 hunts! Interesting that you have the 2 coils to compare. I wonder if the target separation will be as good with the 8" as with the 4".

Thanks Bill! I was looking at one for my wife as a starter and have been reading all I could about it. I appreciate your posts. What helps is that you have similar soil to me in PA. I was wondering about how the F-2 handled the high iron content in the soil. I seem to get a few hot rocks. Keep us posted. Take care!

Thanks for the reviews Bill, sounds like the F2 is a great detector comparable to those costing more and with good target separation.

Ssssh, don't repeat this, don't want them to raise the price .

Thanks for the responses,

As someone who actually enjoys hunting trashy sites i just had to try the F2 with reports of the lightning quick recovery speed ,4 tone ID,and the small coil option for $199.
After reading some less than favorable posts on the F2 i was a bit leary as i had to wait about two weeks before the detector could be shipped.Expecting the worse i was pleasantly surprised by the performance, especially the target separation using the 4" coil but response is also quick using the 8" coil but in heavy trash areas so many targets pass under the coil that it's a little more difficult to isolate them.

As far as working at heavy iron infested sites ,Day 1 hunt was at a site with iron bits everywhere at the lower end of the park and had to run sensitivity at 1bar which =35% and no higher than 2 bars out of a possible 6 bar sensitivity adjustment using the 4" coil. Bar #5 on sensitivity adjustment is 75% of max. Running higher sens the detector just pinged hightones constantly and was a bit much to enjoy but still hit targets.I posted additional under the sarge1 thread yesterday.

Steve as far the amount of clad, at the one park there are so many kids on any given day and rarely see anyone else detecting there, i could have found more if not for experimenting with the F2

The F2 is by no means going to outdo the big guns on the extremes but for simplicity and price i was quite pleased and can't wait to try it against the M6 using the 5" Excelerator vs the F2 4" coil at these trashy sites. HH Bill

I like your post!I sold my Ace 250 and bought a F2 a couple of weeks ago.But I haven't even unpacked it yet.Like you,I was reading some unfavorable reviews, but now very good reviews are starting to show up.With this weather in MO,it'll probably be Spring before I unpack it.Plenty of time to weigh the pros and cons by then.Goodluck and keep my outlook positive by your posts.

So far I've found one very old license plate, a lot of nails, some funky green pennies and other misc. change.. but who's counting? I'm just here to have fun, giggle, and make friends along the way!

Congrats on your success with the F2 - and I must say I'm a little jealous of anyone who can still get out and hunt...there is about 10" on snow outside of my patio this morning...
