Hello Jen,I've been reading your posts and did some reaserch on the fisher imulse I think that your main problem is that you might want to look into another detector. The impulse looks to be desighned for mostly underwater use. With the pulse induction your not going to be able to discriminate so you will have to dig everything ! I have a fisher cz 20 and what is nice about this detector is that it has 3 audio tones for dif.metals so i can set the discrimination 1 notch and this eliminates all Iron. From there there are 2 tones 1 for gold, aluminum, brass, lead etc and another for silver and copper. If i was to set it at 0 discrimination in most areas i could get a signal every couple of inches,Wich is fine if i was looking for large consentrations of metal like say a shipwreak or bottle dump.I'm not sure if the other fisher models have the 3 tones but you can shop around and cheak other brands,Garrett is another of my prefered machines also as they are very user friendly.Good luck, hope this will help !....Terry

Not to sound rude but this is exactly why you don't buy a detector without some research. Know what type of detector you need for your particular hunting preferences and type of hunting. Know what some of the terms are and what they mean. An unsuspecting public continues to be "drawn" in to buying sub par detectors "at huge discounts" as well as detectors that are way over thier heads.
I have to agree wholeheartedly with Rip on this one. The Impulse is not the detector for you Jenn. I would sell it and look for something more suitable to your needs. If you need help let me know. I'm sure we can hook you up.

Default If you decide to sell your Impulse

Give me a holler. I have a cousin over at Spring, by the Woodlands, that is looking for a good beach detector and may be interested. They hunt over at Galveston all the time but for some reason, they don't like using their Garrett there. Says the minerals at the beach gives 'em fits??? I haven't hunted salt water in a long long time, much less with a Garrett.. I had an old vintage Bounty Hunter back then..

Default Dont be sad !

You could possibly sell or trade and if that dosent work just hone up on your pinpointing. This will give you an idea as to the size of your target so if your looking for coins and rings just dig the smaller signals. I also started with a detector with no discrinination and still managed to find some great stuff. In fact the discrimination tends to spoil ya ! I had a friend following me around one day and if i got a sig.that i dident like i'd go on bye.Well he dug one of thouse signals and found a realy cool old cap pistol were all i found was some clad coins ! good luck !...Terry

Default Fisher Impulse

This detector is similair to the Garrett Seahunter. It was built to be used in salt water environments. It ignores the salt minerals and goes very deep but it doesn't discriminate and it likes iron such as nails and bobbypins. Very good for lost rings and jewelry lost at the beach!
