Hi Chris and welcome to TQ! Looks like you already got alot of good advice.

I can only add that the depth reading is from the bottom of the coil to the target. If you're sweeping at grass top level or just swinging high, you may be already adding a few of inches of depth to the reading. Just like the id meter, the depth reading should be considered more of a guide than an actual indication.

Congratulations on becoming a part of this great (and sometimes frustrating ) hobby!

Welcome to TQ!! Lots of people around here have the 250 (should we rename the forum? lol!!!) but I think you've gotten quite a lesson in the week you've had it!! This is a seriously addicting hobby, so I wish you luck! But it sounds like you're off to a great start! Welcome, and I look forward to seeing what else you dig up!!

So far I've found one very old license plate, a lot of nails, some funky green pennies and other misc. change.. but who's counting? I'm just here to have fun, giggle, and make friends along the way!

Default sure thing

Im new at my 250 also-but one thing I did notice is that when you get a hit between the 1 cent and 10 cent marker-its almost always a coin.when you get a hit at the 1.00 mark-its almost never a dollar. If you get a hit at the 10 cent mark-its usually a bent up pull tab.Try all metal mode or turn down your sensitivity and if your truly looking to get the goods in the plie of junk-definatly get the sniper-its deadly.Makes old coins really nervous. Most of al--get out there and practice.I was watching the new bionic woman-and decided if I ever lost an arm in a car accident-Ide like it replaced with an ace 250!!!
Enjoy-and HH

I'm a newbie so my info might not be as helpful, but dig everything. I am still in the learning process myself and the best way I have found to learn your machine by digging to find how it reacts to targets. I also used Steve in PR's suggestion to throw some coins around and see how it reads. Enjoy your new hobby (soon to be obsession)!
