I do have a funny story for all... as I mentioned, I have not detected since I was a boy with my father, so I am a newbie. I do happen to have an 8 or 9 year old Radio Shack Discriminator MD, that is made of such cheap plastic, that it creaks alot when you sweep it, and I think that even the circuits are made of plastic

. I originally bought it because I lost a gold wedding ring while planting annuals with my
"EX" wife

I was not successful finding it and gave up pretty discouraged.. the yelling from my ex didn't help much.
Now since I am thinking of getting a new and good MD, I located and dusted off my $50 cheapy and headed out to the back yard. This time I read the instructions and with advise from this website used some patience. The first thing I find was an old, thick, heavy 6" metal spike. Now the very second thing I find is a men's wedding band 14k gold. How is that for beginner's luck!! Now I'm hooked and really can't wait to get a new detector!
