Wink I've been doing this since last Xmas (present)

I have only found one silver dime. I have found 3 rings. (not valuable) a ton of clad and several large pieces of iron. One place I have been hunting is a city park right in downtown Raleigh. The park has been there since the late 1800's and yet I can not find anything old there yet. One of the problems might be that there is so much trash there in some areas that I discriminate many items out. Perhaps I should be digging all those nickel sounds?
Comments, suggestions?
Thanks..

When you get a solid nickel hit get excited.....most heavier gold rings hit there... smaller gold....bracelets and small bands will often hit in the foil range.

Happy huntin.

Hey John welcome to the site! Glad you dropped by. Good luck with that park. I hate hunting in trashy areas. The good nickle hits should be dug. I found a very nice 10k ring a couple of weeks ago on a nickle hit, Beale.

It's funny how the metal that we all want(gold) gives us such a weak signal. I missed a 5.00 gold coin back YEARS ago, and went over it numerous times. I remember digging that spot one day, and had the signal disappear on me, so I left it. Then, a friend(whom I didn't know at the time) bought a Garrett GTA 1000, and one Sunday morning before church, he went to the old college that we had "hunted out" and dug 2 items.....a Lincoln cent and then the 5.00 gold coin, which graded ex fine. He was even featured in an ad for Garrett with his coin. This was in 1991, I think. Anyway, it taught me to dig lower-quality signals.......

Gary;

Glad to see that this post is still alive, it shows us all how popular the Ace-250 really is. I have switched not to 'Relic' mode almost 100% now as it to me seems to be working quite well. Now what is displayed aint alwys what you gets... I was at an older park in Pensacola that I'd say dates back to the 1800's looking for some treasure two weeks ago. the tot lot looked good but was a bust. So I stuck to swinging from the sidewalks to about 3 feet outoard. I got a great sound ad the display would ring between $1 and $.50 cent piece. I'm getting all excited thinking I fond me a sweet Morgan or Walking half... 8-10 inches latter the Indian Head penny(which must have been vertical on the side of the hole dug, just fell in). Boy has that been a sweet find. Now my neighbor Mark wants us to go back and start to grid the place out...I'm definitely for that and even thought I have been faithfully using a sniper coil here lately, I actually used the stock coil on that find....

Rick

Default Nickel hits

The problem at the park I mentioned is the number of pull tabs. They all hit as a nickel. I'm going to keep at it though. I don't give up easy.

John it's not a good thing but it's how it is.
Personal experience. Ace set to sense 4 bars, all metal. Hit a solid foil tone, turned out to be a newer pull tab, another solid foil sound....EXACTLY like the last only this one turned out to be a 14K with 5 diamonds.
