Default Rings with the 250

Ive been setting the 250 mostly on Coins and doing ok on getting them cept they're all mem's and clad lol! I've only gotten one piece of silver so far and it was an itty bitty charm. What I'm askin is do I need to search more using "all metals", to pick up and get signals for rings?I hunt in a park mostly so far about 40 hours and was thinking theres gotta be some rings lost there.Do I set it on Jewelry to get the hits? Thanks ahead of time.

my thought would be to use the all metal mode and crank that discrimination way down...almost all the way. maybe one bar. and go slow. set sens, at half or so. just my 2 centsworth...hope it helps.

I normally hunt in jewelry mode. Personally the all metal mode you will get all of the iron sounds. I'm not relic hunting most of the time so i don't want to get those signals. If you hunt in coin mode you will descriminate out alot of trash but will miss the gold so don't do it!!! I only use coin mode if I'm extremely tired and ready to go home!!! In other words, being lazy!

Jewelry mode should be fine. Most rings I have found (alas most are junk ones) will ring up in the nickel/pull tab range. Silver medallions have rung up as dime or quarters. There are some big parks by me where I have never found a single ring in the grass. One day I may just set the 'ole Ace on the low end and discrim out cents and higher to see if I can find at least one ring LOL. I hate to think of how many pull tabs are still out there though

Hunting in all metal mode can be very annoying with all the signals that go on, so I would hunt in either jewlery or coin mode. Personally I have never found any gold jewlery, I guess because I'm not looking for any, I have found many kiddie rings and I have found one silver ring, it rang up as a dime...and the was in coin mode. What you could do, and I myself have done this, if you or someone you know has nice gold jewelry/rings, put them in a sandwich baggies and bury them, try different depths too....and then test your ace in diffrenet modes and see and learn the tones it gives you. You can also customize your ace in the 'custom mode' by notching out what kind of jewlery you are looking for...see your manual on how to do this.

I hope that helps some and Good Luck

I usually run my ACE in all metal mode but I generally hunt the beach when I swing it and I'm used to that low flat sound when the coil passes over ferrous targets. As a surf pirate I'm used to only audio feedback so this seems natural for me, I actually find the display annoying. On the rare occassion that I go dirt fishing or wind up in a really trashy area I will switch to custom with just the ferrous notched out. I like to hear it all and decide for myself what to dig. It also helps to find targets that are nestled up to ferrous junk, you just catch a hint of the loot but it's enough to approach the target from different angles to verify that there's a good target, then I dig.

Cheers,

I haven't been doing this too long and I haven't found any jewelry yet. However, I always run in all metal mode and go by sound. I know the sound of iron, foil and pulltabs and I just ignore them. When I hear a ping in the coin range then I stop and check it out. You'll also find that most old beer cans produce solid dime tones. However, you can tell when you pinpoint that the shape is like a large rectangle, instead of small like a coin.

Lots of different answers...try them all on different hunts. As for me, I use to use 'all metal mode', but was told by a local old timer who also is an md dealer for the best results to run in the 'relic mode', and have your sensitivity as high as you can for that area. As far a jewelery goes, I have only found one silver chain w/pendant so far, and it was at the beach in my first month and I was in the all 'metal mode', but them again at the beach you dig every signal since its e-z street to pull out a find. I have found what seems like a gazillion pull tabs and pennies also... You will strike the good stuff soon...

Well, me being a noob, I always put it in all metal mode. I usually go to the beach though, so I don't have to worry about iron (Unless it's a cannon ball.) I haven't found any rings yet, but if you ask people, they will tell you that gold rings show up as pull tabs . So if you cancel the trash, you cancel the gold. Jewelry mode will cancel your coin finding and vice versa. You can however, make a custom mode, which lets you cancel out specific things like iron.
