Default Coin Depths

I have an ACE 250 that I really like but rarely find older coins. I've read the posts regarding coin depths with the 250 but still have some questions. Some have talked about "mid-range" tones and I'm not sure what that means. I don't seem to notice any difference in the volume of tones with my detector. I usually dig when I hear a solid bell tone with each sweep but some recommend digging even when one of the sweeps produces a flat tone. Can anyone give me more direction? Should I be able to discern changes in volume of the tones? I just think I'm missing some of the deep.er/older coins because I'm not interpreting the tones correctly. Thanks

when you sweep one direction and then the other direction and you get the tone both ways, slow it down and narrow it down to the double "money tone" i call it. the tones that are real deep will give you a tone one way and you will probably not get one the other way. its hard to go real deep with the ace. up to 5 inches she is a coin magnet. turn up the sensitivity all the way and see if you can get another inch out of her. i use the sniper coil, not sure what coil you are using. hope this helps you some.

I don't think the volume changes. I get the normal 3 tones. The thing I pay attention to is how the bell tone is repeated as I sweep over the target.

I use mine on a salt beach with the larger coil. Not to contradict any replies, every machine and technique is a little different and one isn't any more wrong than it is rite. Just last weekend I found a small silver chain and it was the most different sounding find I've found yet.
With mine all the volumes are the same just some sound...cleaner, clearer, if that makes any sense?? The silver chain was about ten inches down and it didn't really report, it was more of a foil chirp but repeated as long as I went a certain speed, too slow or too fast and it wouldn't report. To be truthful if it hadn't been so slow on finds I most likely would have figured it was small trash or mineralized sand and not chased it.
